Commerce City parks, trails and open spaces are patrolled by local law enforcement and all other applicable rules and regulations to include state statutes or city ordinances will be enforced.
Per Sec. 7-1000 Park property means any and all public recreation lands, waters or facilities owned, leased or operated by the City of Commerce City, including, but not limited to, all city parks, trails and open space, all city recreation facilities and the Buffalo Run Golf Course.

Chapter 7 PARKS AND RECREATION
7-1002 General Prohibitions
Swimming, boating, ice skating, ice hockey, fishing, tubing, rafting, sledding and boating are prohibited on any Commerce City property, unless where expressly permitted by public posting or written authorization from the city.
Use of any park or area designated for park or open space usage for any golfing activities is prohibited, except within the boundaries of the Buffalo Run Golf Course in accordance with golf course rules, regulations and policies.
7-1003 Operation of motorized vehicles
Motorized vehicle means and includes any of the following as the same are defined by the model traffic code as adopted by the city:
Motorcycle; motor-driven cycle; motor home; motor vehicle; motor scooter or motor bicycle; motorized bicycle; motorized device.
The city manager is authorized to designate parking areas for motorized vehicles and to close or restrict access to such areas.
Parking of vehicles is not allowed when the park is closed.
No unauthorized motorbikes, go carts, ATVs, or other motorized vehicles are allowed on trails, along greenbelts and drainage ways, or in posted service yards, or beyond designated roadways or parking areas. No off-road use is permitted.
7-1004 Closed Areas; Curfew
Park hours: 5am-11pm daily
It shall be unlawful for a person or persons to enter into or remain on or trespass upon any enclosed areas of a park property, or posted with a sign restricting the use of such area.
7-1005 Glass Containers
Glass Containers are not allowed in any city park, trail or open space.
7-1006 Dumping Prohibited
Dispose of all litter, trash, and debris in proper receptacles or take with you. Do not dispose of household waste in park receptacles.
For large shelter rental groups, please bring additional trash bags with you, as the trash receptacles tend to fill up quickly. You may leave tied trash bags by the trash receptacles for pick up. Repair or clean up beyond normal use will be billed to applicant based on cost of service .
7-1007 Fires
It is unlawful to burn any material in a careless manner or to leave a fire unattended or to fail to completely extinguish any fire. Picnic grills are provided at various parks throughout the city.
All portable charcoal grills must be used on dirt, concrete, or asphalt areas only. Grills shall not be used on any grass area. All coals shall be drowned, cooled, and removed from the park. Fires are permitted in designated grills, fireplaces, and personal grills only. Grills are not allowed under any canopies. NOTE: Grills must be a minimum of twelve inches above ground level. Tabletop grills are not authorized.
7-1008 Fireworks, explosives, firearms and missiles
Fireworks of any kind are prohibited within Commerce City park properties.
It is unlawful to throw, discharge or launch any type of missile while upon any park property unless authorized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
7-1009 Hunting, Trapping and Molesting Wild Animals
It is unlawful within any park property to hunt, trap, catch, molest, harm, kill or chase any wild animal, or to molest the habitat thereof, except as expressly authorized by the city.
7-1010 Camping; Tents
Overnight camping is prohibited in any park or area designated for park usage, except where specifically designated or as authorized by the Department of Parks and Recreation.
It is unlawful for any person to erect any type of tent or other shelter or structure on any park property without the prior authorization of the city
Overnight parking on park properties is prohibited.
Shelters/Canopies During Park Rental – The number of picnic tables at a shelter varies from shelter to shelter. Additional tables are not provided. Setup of additional items into the park (i.e. canopies) must be approved prior to your event and may require an on-site meeting with Parks staff. Stakes should be no longer than 12 inches so sprinkler lines will not be damaged.
7-1011 Commercial Activity
It is unlawful to offer any article or thing for sale, including food, within the parks or areas designated for park usage unless a vendor permit has been authorized by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf.
7-1012 Animals
Pets must be on leash at all times and held by a person who is physically able to control the animal.
Pick up after your pet.
Pets cannot harass any other animal or park user.
7-1013 Park Trees-Planting, Cutting
It shall be unlawful to alter in any manner lands and or property managed or owned by the City of Commerce City without written authorization from the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf. To alter is defined as, but not limited to, any modification of existing lands or vegetation from its existing condition including any form of landscaping, construction or placement of structures or other.
It is unlawful for any person to intentionally damage park trees by any means or to attach ropes, wire, nails, advertising posters or other contrivance to park trees without first obtain in written authorization from the city.
7-1014 Smoking
Smoking is prohibited on all park properties except designated parking lots.
Chapter 4 ANIMAL CODE
4-2001 Poisoning Animals
It is unlawful for any person to poison any animal or to distribute poison with the intent to poison any animal other than insects, mice, rats, bats or other wild rodents, or to distribute such poison on public property.
4-2005 Animals At Large; Damage to Property
Any animal owner whose animal destroys or damages shrubbery, plants, flowers, public property or a facility in a park will be in violation of these rules and shall be responsible for damage caused by the animal.
Chapter 6 NUISANCES
6-2001 Circulars and Printed Materials
Posting of signs of any kind is prohibited, with the exception of signs erected and maintained pursuant to and in the discharge of any governmental function, or as required by any law, ordinance, or governmental regulation. Signs/banners are not permitted in parks without a Temporary Sign Permit. Please call 303.289.3790 for more information.
6-2011 Unreasonable Noise
The use of amplified sound shall be limited to certain parks or certain areas designated for park usage. Specific locations within park areas shall be determined by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf on a case-by-case basis. Such amplification, when authorized by permit, shall be limited to between the hours of 8am and 10pm and shall not create a noise disturbance across park property boundaries to impact residential areas. It shall be unlawful for any person to make, continue, or cause to be made or continued, any unreasonably loud or unusual noise, which seriously inconveniences other persons in the area.
Chapter 12 PUBLIC PEACE AND SAFETY
12-2002 False Information
It is unlawful to give false or misleading information to City staff conducting an investigation of a violation of the Commerce City Code or a rule or regulation of the City, or to display any false identification with intent to mislead City staff in the performance of his/her duties
12-2010 Failure to follow rules and regulations on public property
Park users must leave when asked to leave a park, trail or open space due to a violation of any ordinances, rules or regulations.
12-2011 Entrance upon closed public grounds prohibited
Walking upon turf areas where posted is prohibited. Entrance to public grounds posted as closed in order to maintain and protect public grounds from unnecessary diminishment and erosion, to protect people from safety hazards and also wishes to beautify such public grounds without unnecessary hindrance is prohibited.
12-5000 Disorderly Conduct
All persons making use of any public park shall at all times conduct themselves in an orderly manner and shall not conduct themselves in a loud, boisterous, or unseemly manner or in such fashion to disturb, be offensive or annoy other users of the park or residents adjacent thereto .
12-5006 Open Containers
A permit to consume fermented malt beverages (beer) in public parks must be obtained from The Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf at least two weeks prior to desired date of park use.
Park users are prohibited from consumption or possession of alcoholic beverages without a permit to consume.
If City staff observes alcohol use without an alcohol permit, a peace officer will be notified.
12-6002 Bodily Waste
Urination or defecation in other than designated restrooms is prohibited.
Park Property Rules
Discrimination
Commerce City prohibits discrimination based on disability for any individual or group permitted to use parks or open space. The City recognizes and complies with the American with Disabilities Act.
Speed Limit
Speed limit is 20 miles per hour or as otherwise posted, on all roadways and parking areas on any park or open space lands.
Barriers
Barriers or rope may not be used to mark areas of exclusive use in any park or areas designated for park usage unless a permit has been authorized by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf.
Inflatable Play Structures
Inflatable play structures are prohibited, unless authorized by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf.
Permits Required for Groups
Any planned, organized event and/or any picnic gathering or event with 25 or more people at any Commerce City park property requires obtaining in advance, a Park Usage Permit.
PARK RENTAL RULES
Application Deadline
Application should be submitted at least two (2) weeks prior to desired rental date. Shelter fees and a $100 minimum security deposit required for rentals. Application forms may be completed online at https://recreation.c3gov.com/rent-or-reserve or Commerce City recreation centers.

Right to Cancel Park Usage
The Parks & Recreation Dept. reserves the right to cancel any reservation or enforce regulations as mandated by Local, county, state, and federal jurisdictions.
Refuse/Revoke Permit
The Parks, Recreation & Golf Department reserves the right to refuse or revoke this application due to weather conditions and/or if these rules and regulations are not complied with.
Park Property Usage for Facilities
No charge or fee for use of a park or area designated for park usage shall be made to the public. No admission shall be charged to participate in any event, including but not limited to: lessons, clinics, tournaments, shows, exhibits, etc. unless a permit has been authorized by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf.
Insurance
Individuals or groups requesting a park permit or an alcohol permit may be required to show a certificate of insurance.
Permits
A copy of the park and/or alcohol permit must be in the possession of the applicant or designated representative and shown to City personnel upon request. The applicant will be responsible for his/her own actions and the actions of parties represented as a result of this permit.
Rental Hours
8am to 10pm. ALL activities must cease no later than 10pm. The public is prohibited from being in any park between the hours of 11pm and 5am unless otherwise posted, or when the park has been fenced, locked, and/or temporarily closed to public use except as authorized.
Shelters/Canopies Approvals
The number of picnic tables at a shelter varies from shelter to shelter. We will not be able to provide additional tables for your event. Setup of additional items into the park (i.e. canopies) must be approved prior to your event and may require an on-site meeting with Parks staff. Stakes for volleyball nets or canopies should be no longer than 12 inches so sprinkler lines will not be damaged.
Security/Traffic
If additional security or traffic control measures are required, the City will not assume any financial responsibility.
Responsible for Damage and Cleaning
All users/organizations will be held responsible for the condition of the area(s) they use. Should any damage be incurred as a result of any user/organization renting any field or facility, such user/organization will be charged for the actual repair costs related to the damage. Park shelters and restroom facilities must be left in a clean and orderly condition.
Maximum Number of People
The criteria for the maximum number of people and activities in specific parks shall be determined by the Department of Parks, Recreation & Golf on a park-by-park basis.
Shelters are limited to 75 people per shelter at most parks. Fronterra Park and Veterans Memorial Park allow for up to 100 people.
Number of People at Event
If City staff observes that there are more people at a park usage than designated on the park permit, additional fees may be applied.
Additional Portable Restrooms/Dumpsters
If City staff notifies applicant that additional portable restrooms and/or dumpsters are needed the applicant can contact appropriate vendors to make arrangements.
